The Phuket Smart Bus is the budget way out of the airport. A single route runs down the west coast to Rawai, calling at the main beaches, for a flat 100 baht no matter where you get off. It's slow because it stops everywhere, but it's cheap, air-conditioned and simple.

How the Smart Bus route works
There is a single Smart Bus route (Route 1) that runs from the airport in the north down the west coast to Rawai in the south. Along the way it calls at the main beaches — Nai Yang, Bang Tao, Surin, Kamala, Patong, Karon and Kata — so most visitors can reach their resort area on one bus. The buses are air-conditioned and reasonably comfortable, and on the current timetable they leave the airport every 30 minutes or so from 08:15 until 23:30, which covers all but the small hours of the night.
The fare is a flat 100 baht no matter where you board or get off — that single price is what makes it by far the cheapest way out of the airport.
How to pay and where to catch it
You can pay the driver in cash, or use a rechargeable Smart Bus card if you plan to travel the route more than once. At the airport the stop is signposted just outside the terminal — follow the Smart Bus signs from arrivals rather than the taxi touts.
Because it keeps to a timetable and makes every stop, give yourself a buffer: if your onward plans are tight, or you land late, a taxi or private transfer will be far quicker.
Is the Smart Bus right for you?
Choose it if you are travelling light, on a budget, and arriving during the day — it is unbeatable value and simple to use. Skip it if you have heavy luggage, a young family, a late-night flight, or you simply want to be at your hotel quickly: the many stops make it slow, luggage space is limited, and service thins out in the evening.
