The Phuket Smart Bus is the budget way out of the airport. A single route runs down the west coast to Rawai, calling at the main beaches, for a flat 100 baht no matter where you get off. It's slow because it stops everywhere, but it's cheap, air-conditioned and simple.

How the Smart Bus route works
There is a single Smart Bus route (Route 1) that runs from the airport in the north down the west coast to Rawai in the south. Along the way it calls at the main beaches — Cherng Talay (the nearest stop to Bang Tao), Surin, Kamala, Patong, Karon and Kata — so most visitors can reach their resort area on one bus. The airport is the route's northern end, and the bus leaves it heading inland to Thalang before turning south, so the two beaches nearest the airport — Nai Yang and Mai Khao — have no Smart Bus service at all. The buses are air-conditioned, and on the current timetable they leave the airport every 30 minutes or so from 08:15 until 23:30.
The fare is a flat 100 baht no matter where you board or get off.
How to pay and where to catch it
You can pay the driver in cash, by Thai QR PromptPay or by contactless card; if you plan several rides, the operator sells day passes for this route from ฿299 for 24 hours. At the airport the stop is signposted just outside the terminal — follow the Smart Bus signs from arrivals rather than the taxi touts.
Because it keeps to a timetable and makes every stop, give yourself a buffer: if your onward plans are tight, or you land late, a taxi or private transfer will be far quicker.
Is the Smart Bus right for you?
Choose it if you are travelling light, on a budget, and arriving during the day — it is unbeatable value and simple to use. Skip it if you have heavy luggage, a young family, a late-night flight, or you simply want to be at your hotel quickly: the many stops make it slow, luggage space is limited, and service thins out in the evening.

- About 80–95 minutes, because it stops at several beaches on the way. Kata and Karon are closer to two hours. A taxi covers the same ground in under an hour.
- Where do I catch the Smart Bus at Phuket Airport?
- Outside the domestic terminal, not at the arrivals kerb: after baggage claim leave the arrivals area, walk to Exit 3, turn left and follow the public-transport walkway — the stop is just ahead, under the blue Smart Bus sign. Pay the driver in cash, by Thai QR PromptPay, or by contactless Visa, Mastercard or JCB.
- Does the Smart Bus run late at night?
- Later than most guides say: the last bus out of the airport leaves at 23:30 and reaches Rawai around 01:50, so an evening arrival can still pay 100 baht instead of 800. Only landings between 23:30 and the 08:15 first bus have no service. The catch is the return leg — the last bus TO the airport leaves Rawai at 19:30 and Patong at about 20:20, so for a night flight out you need a taxi, an AOT limousine, a Grab or a pre-booked transfer.
- Does the Smart Bus go to Nai Yang or Mai Khao?
- No — and this catches people out, because those are the two beaches closest to the airport. Phuket has a single Smart Bus route and the airport is its northern end: the bus pulls out heading inland to Thalang and then turns south down the west coast, so nothing on the route runs north or west towards Nai Yang and Mai Khao. For either beach take a metered taxi or a Grab instead — about 300–450 baht and 10 to 15 minutes, which is short enough that the fare stays reasonable.
