From HKT to Chalong

Chalong is on the south-east side of Phuket, about 40 km from the airport and roughly 50 to 60 minutes by car. It is not a beach but the island's main jumping-off point for boat tours and temples. There is no direct west-coast airport bus here; most people take a metered taxi or AOT limousine at around 700–900 baht, a shared minivan, a Grab, or a pre-booked private transfer.

Getting to Chalong from the airport

Chalong sits inland on the island's south-east, so the drive from the northern airport is about 40 km and 50 to 60 minutes by taxi, limousine or private transfer for roughly 700–900 baht. The Phuket Smart Bus runs down the west coast to the beaches, not to Chalong, so using it means changing in Phuket Town or at Central Festival and finishing by songthaew or Grab — slow, and only worthwhile if you are counting every baht.

Which option suits Chalong

For most visitors a metered taxi, Grab or private transfer straight to the pier or your hotel is simplest. If you are heading out on an early island tour the next morning, a pre-booked transfer that guarantees pickup time is the safest bet. Shared minivans are the cheapest direct option at a few hundred baht per person.

Local tips for Chalong

Chalong is where most Phuket day trips begin: Chalong Pier is the main departure point for speedboats to Coral (Koh Hae), Racha and the Phi Phi Islands. Nearby are Wat Chalong, the island's most revered temple, and the Big Buddha viewpoint on the hill above. There is no swimming beach here — book accommodation in Chalong if you want easy access to tours and temples rather than sand.
